Niramayah Cancer Foundation's work with rural communities in Chhattisgarh has shed light on the significant challenges faced by cancer patients, particularly regarding the financial burden of treatment. Through our observations, we've found that the high out-of-pocket expenses associated with cancer care often force rural patients to make difficult decisions, including defaulting on their treatment. This financial coercion can have devastating consequences, leading to delayed diagnosis, inadequate treatment, and poorer health outcomes for individuals already grappling with the emotional and physical toll of cancer.

One of the key observations from our work is the urgent need for increased access to affordable cancer care services in rural areas of Chhattisgarh. Many patients we've interacted with lack access to proper screening facilities, diagnostic tools, and essential treatment options within their communities. As a result, they are forced to travel long distances to urban centers, incurring additional expenses for transportation, accommodation, and other incidental costs. This disparity in access to healthcare exacerbates the financial strain on rural cancer patients and their families, further compounding the challenges they face in seeking timely and adequate treatment.

In response to these observations, Niramayah Cancer Foundation is actively advocating for policy changes and implementing community-based initiatives aimed at addressing the barriers to cancer prevention and treatment in rural Chhattisgarh. Our efforts focus on raising awareness about early detection, promoting preventive measures, and providing support services to alleviate the financial burden on cancer patients. By collaborating with local healthcare providers, government agencies, and community leaders, we strive to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for cancer care in rural areas, where every individual, regardless of their socioeconomic status, can access the quality care they deserve.
